Who Can Join

Our team includes a variety of athletes, from new triathletes to seasoned veterans. No matter what point you are in your training journey, you are always welcome on our team! We strive to be inclusive, hardworking, represent our school with pride, and have a little fun along the way. By the end of the semester, you will not only be a triathlete but also a member of the MTRI family.

Aren’t Triathlons super long? What are the distances?

Olympic: The standard triathlon distance, used in the Olympics–1.5 km swim, 40 km bike ride, & 10 km run

Sprint:  A good distance for beginners or for improving speed– is 750 m swim, 20 km bike ride, & 5 km run

Do I need to go to every single practice? What if I can’t make it? — Practices and races are highly encouraged, but never required. Athletes may pay the dues to race and practice on their own.

Do I need a bike to join? -- We suggest you have your own, but we do practice on spin bikes from November to March, so there are options for those without a bike!

Not a strong swimmer? -- No Problem!  We have an excellent swim coach!

I've never raced before. -- Great! We'll make your first triathlon an awesome experience!
